TV Time

How much time are you wasting watching TV?

tv

I did some research and found that the average adult watches almost five hours of TV every day. Another source stated that the national average is 20-26 hours per week. After doing the research I looked at myself to see if this is true. It is, I watch about 21 hours of TV every week and more if it is football season.

People, TV time is equivalent to a PART TIME JOB!!!

I’m not going to get into time management, that’s for another topic, but come on. If this is true for you and your not reaching your goals, get off your ass, turn off the TV and put the time into money making avenues.

That’s it, just a quick post to make you think about what you are doing with your time.

  1. Jamie says:

Were you watching TV when you wrote that Patrick. LOL

I do admit, I was scratching my head after reading what you wrote. I was like, what happened to the rest of the post.. read more button. It was like you were just getting started and the commercial finished. :)

I’m a big TV lover myself, but I feel that I do learn some things from TV. I guess it really depends on ‘what’ you watch…

I have learned A Lot from ‘The Apprentice’ TV show with Donald Trump for an example.

  2. I don’t really watch much TV at all, but when I’m do, I’m always on my laptop doing some work.

  3. TurkDN.com says:

I do not watch TV much, but I have to also admit that I watch TV on the internet from time to time. CNN news, BBC iplayer and some channels for following series.

I lose way to much time on friendfeed actually. I have to start managing that time. But at the same time I also learn a lot from the Friendfeed community. Great discussions.

  4. I couldn’t agree more chef, as they say, time is money. But if your watching TV, time equals $0.00 :D

  5. Ross says:

I agree that watching TV is pretty close to 100% waste of time. Although it is fun and a great break from work. It has been proven that taking small frequent breaks from studying or working you are more efficient and on top things. It has also been discover that eating a snack in times like those will also boost your engines. So its not always about work, sometimes you just have to play.

  6. Reece Berg says:

Great post Patrick! I just mentioned on my blog today as well about turning the TV off — sick and tired of “hearing recession this and recession that”. Buy Low Sell High :)

Been busy lately and hadn’t gotten around to commenting on the new design and all — great job and I’m 100% sure you can accomplish anything you set your mind to. If John Chow can do it, Chef Patrick can do it better! ;)

  7. Well I dont have a TV atm because I moved and never got round to buying a TV so this problem is solved. But I do have a problem with sleeping atm, which is as bad (a waste of time).

  8. Tom says:

I rarely watch TV without being on my computer, working. If anything, the TV is on for background noise.

  9. Bill says:

Patrick, why not really stir up the muck and suggest we stop watching professional sports? Years of odd working hours and living overseas broke me of my TV habit. Interest in sports died, too, because they were too hard to access in the pre-web days. I learned that, without the back-story (this player is recovering from injury or personal problems, this player has lost all respect but is fighting back, this coach was fired from the team he now coaching against), it’s just grown guys getting paid fortunes to knock balls back and forth.

When I was back in the US working with a guy who hardly had any time for his family away from business, he would scrupulously spend 3-4 hours watching an “important” NBA game.

Forget spectator sports. Keep the TV for the kids and the special things.

Then you’re free to waste time on blogs and forums!;)
