Writing Services

Posted on 21 May 2009

I don’t know about you all, but sometimes I just don’t have the time to write. When this happens I use the services of another writer. Some of us just don’t have the time to write everything ourselves if we have multiple projects going on at the same time. Also, let’s face it here, some of us are better writers than others.  Here’s where my experience as an entrepreneur comes in, I delegate.

writing penYou can have freelancers write:

  • website home pages
  • website content
  • SEO articles
  • ghost blog posts
  • ebooks
  • press releases
  • and more…

Basically they can write just about anything you need.

I have a confession to make. I have used a ghost blog for one, and only one, post on ChefPatrick.com. I bet you can’t tell which article it was though…and no it’s not this one! That’s the beauty of it. They write with your voice. You get the credit and it’s confidential. If their article doesn’t sound good to you, you can tweak it to make it better or fit your personality better. Ultimately, the bulk of the work was done for you, meaning you saved time and used it elsewhere for more important things.

Beware though! You have to be willing to pay a good rate to get some good writing.  I want you to learn from my mistakes here. So let me tell you about my experience with this. At one point I was developing websites and flipping them. I wanted to be able to offer original content, but I didn’t have the time to research and write everything myself. A few times I hired someone, paying between $5-10, to write several different web site content articles. Here’s where the saying “You get what you pay for!” comes in. Every single time I did this my wife had to either highly edit their work or completely re-write their stuff.  The problem was that most of the time their English speaking skills sucked and that came through in the articles. Another problem was that they flat out plagiarized, but tried to mask it by changing 1 or 2 words here and there. Unacceptable.  Inevitably my wife or myself wound up cleaning up the work. The problem with this was we had to fix so much that we could have written the articles ourselves in the same time it took to fix the garbage ones.

I don’t have to explain the importance of good content to you all. For SEO purposes, you should have quality content up on your sites. This is where a writer comes in. A lot of freelance writers out there today know the importance of this and are ready and eager to write them for you.

Now, don’t completely excuse yourself of any responsibility here. In order for this relationship to work you need to be clear and concise when communicating your wants and needs from them. Be specific. Tell them if an article is just informational or if you have certain keywords you want used and how many times you want them used. If you have notes or an outline prepared, show them to your writer because it’s material they will be able to use and it will give them concise directives. Again, be as specific as you possibly can. This will aid the writer tremendously and cut out any confusion on their part.

Will you have to spend a lot?

In my opinion no. The good thing is, most of the time they aren’t outrageously expensive. For an article of 500 words most quality freelancers will charge roughly $25 or more. Of course depending on what you need, prices vary. Writers usually charge upwards of $50 for ghost posts and several hundred, if not thousands for ebooks. I don’t know about you, but my time is worth more than $25 an hour and I will happily pay that after learning my lesson the hard way.

Where do you find a quality writer?

Your in luck because my wife is a great writer and we are now offering these services right here. I personally guarantee any of the work!

Not interested in using my services, no problem. It’s a lot easier than you think to find one. Ask people you know if they have anyone they use for writing. You can get some good referrals from people that have tried their services already. There are also freelance sites you can post jobs on where the freelancers will bid for the work. Guru.com is one of the most popular sites offering this today.

First Product Release

Posted on 06 May 2009

I am pleased to announce the release of my first product, ViralSignUp.com.

What is Viral Sign Up?
Viral Sign Up is a software application that works in conjunction with your email subscription service. It collects the email address sending it directly to your subscription provider such as AWeber, Constant Contact, iContact, etc,. At the same time, the Twitter portion of the application follows the site owner and sends out a message (tweet) to their followers. Where this goes viral is when the subscriber’s message is sent out to all of their Twitter followers. You control the message that is sent, make it creative.

That’s the basic answer. I’m not going to give you guys a sales pitch. I will tell you this product has helped me gain dozens and dozens of new email subscribers along with an additional 100-250 new site visitors on a daily basis. You’ll notice the actual form to the top right hand side of the site, where the old standard subscription form was.

For the sales pitch and to buy visit ViralSignUp.com :)

I’d be honored if you purchase my product and become an affiliate. This is the first of many products to come from Chef Patrick!

I also plan on blogging about the entire process right here. Everything from creation, launching and sales.

Project Poker Site

Posted on 11 January 2009

I would like to break down the numbers for a mini-site project I just completed and some plans.

pokerturtlecomDevelopment costs:

  1. Domain Name $7.05
  2. Theme $0
  3. Install $15
  4. Logo $30
  5. Articles $65
  6. Article Re-Write $15

Total: $132.05

Time spent was about two hours managing the logo creation, site setup and article implementation.

I probably paid a little more than some of you out there. I’m not tech savvy so didn’t do the WP install and I didn’t feel like doing the rewrites for the articles. For me the extra couple of dollars spent is worth the time saved.

With very little work I have already recovered $100 of my initial investment. I sold three links a few months back on another poker site so I just contacted them to see if they were interested again. One of the three responded and purchased a link on the home page along with a review article.

Within the next week or two my goal is to have sold at least one more link at $35 to break even on the development costs.
Upadate (1/12) I just sold another link for $35 and have broken even on this project.

Now that I have broken even on the project I a few choices…

  • Sell the mini-site as is for $100-$250 (take the money and run)
  • Leave it alone until the next page rank update (with a higher pr i can sell links for more)
  • Continue selling links and work on SEO (build up and make real money)

At this point I’m really not sure what I will do. Because I’m not into building up my mini-sites I’ll probably go with one of the first two options. Now for everyone out there wondering what if I selected the last option. Well, affiliate programs like Party Poker pay $75 just for someone signing up and playing poker. I also have a learn how to play poker banner on the site that pays $23.50 on the initial sale and another $7.50 every month. Real money can be made, it takes effort and time.

A side note for everyone, Google does not allow any of their ads to be displayed on gambling sites. Their is a little trick to this, as long as you are not promoting or directing anyone to an online gambling site you can use Google ads. That decision is up to you, either high paying affiliate sales or Google ads.

Goodbye DNKitchen.com and Hello ChefPatrick.com

Posted on 05 January 2009

SURPRISE!

DNKitchen.com is no more. As you can see I created a completely new site with a new look and feel to it. Most of you already know me as Chef Patrick so this should be an extremely easy transition. Plus don’t worry, all the old links and feeds will continue to work.

I created this newer blog, honestly, because I wanted to talk about other things in addition to my main passion of domaining. Domaining is and will continue to be a main focus of mine. Without having to build 5 different sites I decided to just have one that I can talk to you guys on about those different things.

Another focus will be making money online. I want to see for myself if it’s possible to make the kinds of crazy money some of these guys out there are making. As I’m going through this adventure I want to be able to share it with you. The creation of this site allows for much broader conversations. Think of it as a one stop shop to talk about our passion, domaining, and then some.

I HOPE you guys enjoy the new site and will continue on this journey of growth with me. I am lucky to have wonderful readers like yourselves and hope you’ll trust me enough to see this change will make things more fun and informative around here.

I will post more tomorrow about my goals and the direction of ChefPatrick.com. To be honest the site change over took a lot longer than expected and I am really tired. I still have to add some links and a few tweaks tomorrow, in the mean time if you see something out of place please let me know by posting a comment.
