Sorry I haven’t blogged in a couple days, I have been on Twitter a lot. I may need an intervention because I am addicted. Having said that I will be putting up an article in the next few days about Twitter and why you should be on it too.
Just two things and I’ll let you get on with your Friday.
What do you want?
What would you like for me to talk about? Are there any topics you need or want me to cover? Let me know either by leaving a comment, sending me an email or message me on Twitter.
Prizes
Secondly make sure to sign up for my newsletter. We are giving away our first newsletter prize in two days, a $25 gift card to either Amazon or GoDaddy. Like they say with the lotto, you have to play to win.
Sorry, one more surprise. I am working on a contest with a ton of prizes, my goal is around $5,000 worth. This contest will be in March, just in time for March Madness. If you are interested in sponsoring my next contest please send me an email through the contact page.
Last night I sold xoda.com, a four letter domain name purchased a few months back for $815. I sold it for $640 which is a $175 loss, but guess what, I’m happy to take the loss. Not happy to lose money but happy to to gain that budget for future investing.
Here are a few examples of what I can do with $640.
182 cups of Starbucks coffee, meetings to network with local domainers
12 125×125 banners on pretty much any website I choose (branding)
Really the possibilities are endless, I could even buy a couple hundred t shirts or mugs and give them out to you guys, again for branding which is extremely important.
What the extra cash gives me is options and flexibility. I get dozens of emails every month asking me to purchase domain names, some of those people are desperate and need to sell. I hate to say it but in hard economic times a domainer or any business for that matter needs to learn when to take advantage. I wouldn’t even say take advantage of the seller, they are happy to get the cash. What I mean is take advantage of the times and lower pricing. Now is the time to buy the premium domain names.
Besides the blanket statement of buy now I want to say buy smart. Find a niche and buy domain names in that arena. I own hundreds of real estate related domain names, my prior businesses were in that field. I still have thousands of contacts and influence in real estate. My example may be a little extreme, I am fortunate to have built up a real estate contact list. For the majority of you start off with your hobbies and interests. More than likely you will know more people with the same interests. If your a gamer buy gamer domain names. Maybe your buddy wants to start a gaming forum or a games fan site, who will he reach out to when the time comes to buy a domain name. I don’t want to get off topic on how to sell domains but hopefully you get the point.
Back to my loss on xoda.com, I bought into a niche that I didn’t understand and had no end buyer contacts. Do I regret buying a couple hundred four letter domain names, never, it is all part of my domaining education. Will I buy more four letter domains, maybe, but they have to have obvious development potential or at a price I couldn’t pass up. In fact now is the time take to take advantage of me, not because I need the money but because the domains listed are not in my niche. If you are interested check out DomainSubway.com and make some offers. Remember I said take advantage, not abuse or beat me up, those offers will be ignored.
I did some research and found that the average adult watches almost five hours of TV every day. Another source stated that the national average is 20-26 hours per week. After doing the research I looked at myself to see if this is true. It is, I watch about 21 hours of TV every week and more if it is football season.
People, TV time is equivalent to a PART TIME JOB!!!
I’m not going to get into time management, that’s for another topic, but come on. If this is true for you and your not reaching your goals, get off your ass, turn off the TV and put the time into money making avenues.
That’s it, just a quick post to make you think about what you are doing with your time.
Google Chrome beta launched just a little over 100 days ago. It is now coming out of beta with 10 million users. First reaction was that is a lot of users, after looking at the browser market share chart below that equates to only .83%.
I have not tried Google Chrome and at this point do not have any intentions of it. Honestly, I just got used to Firefox which I installed about four months ago. Never know, I didn’t think I would switch from IE either
This directly from Google Chrome…
“Internet users have an increasing number of choices for web browsers today, including Firefox, Safari, Opera, and now Google Chrome. Sometimes web pages look and work differently in each browser, so it’s important to test your site across all of them to ensure all your visitors can enjoy the experience you’ve designed.”
I am glad that I am not a developer, I’m sure they are tired of different browsers.
What is Google Chrome?
For those of you that have been under a rock for the last 100 plus days here is an overview video from Google.
First let me start by saying Happy Thanksgiving to those that celebrated yesterday. Yes it’s a little late, sorry. Long story short, we went to my mother-in-laws for the holiday and she not only has an old computer, but it’s bogged down with useless software, programs and probably viruses. To top that all off she only has dial up. I hit the AOL button because that is her internet provider and it took at least five minutes just to launch. I am not a very patient man, before I let it frustrate me on a holiday I let it go and went back to watching football.
The holiday in America is a time for thanks, well I have a list of people to thank for making DNKitchen what it is. I want to thank my readers, sou-chefs, sponsors, developers and of course my wife. You have all shown great support, this would not be possible without you.
I want to apologize to my readers signed up for my newsletter. It was my intention to get a newsletter out this morning with deleting domain names. I ate too much turkey yesterday to get up that early. I am working on the list now and will have it out for tomorrows deleting domain names. If your not signed up on my newsletter that gives you about six hours to get signed up.
Coming Monday, my interview with Elliot Silver. Elliot is not only a great domainer but a great person, he has given me some very helpful Geo domain advice.
Lastly, to update everyone about my post for worst registrar, I am still waiting to get something from Bob Parsons owner of GoDaddy. They have a staff of employees that sort through everything. I am in the final stages of approval for an interview. Should be mid December before you see that, I will keep everyone posted.
