A couple things in the news to report about GoDaddy.

First, GoDaddy released a preview of  their upcoming Super Bowl ads. You can catch a preview of the commercials at here. Come on, I know you want to, they have hot women.

The second piece of news is the company’s departure of Adam Dicker, VP of Domain Aftermarket. Most of you know Adam as DotComGod from his domaining forum DNForum. According to a post he left on his forum, he left on good terms and allow him more time for other projects.

DomainState.com Auction Is Canceled

Posted on 12 January 2010

One week ago today, I posted that DomainState.com Was Going To Auction because of the high amount of interest to purchase the forum. Well, I just received the following email from DomainState.com admins.

“We have had a pre auction offer from one of the current 3 part owners of the site (Paul Shaw/Snoopy) at $20,000 USD. We consider the offer to be acceptable in absence of any significantly higher offer. As a result instead of holding an auction we will now be calling for further offers.

Despite the fact that the offer is from a current part owner of the site it is our intention to give careful consideration to all offers that are put on the table. We would like to wrap things up over the next few days.”

I believe this is the best move for the forum and its members. Keep it in the hands of someone that has been running it since day 1.

I will not be bidding any further. Although it is a good forum I cannot see a value of $20,000 in its current state.

WhyPark’s Charity Auction Helps A Dream Come True

Posted on 05 January 2010

The WhyPark Charity domain auction closed a few weeks ago, selling a total of 28 domain names for $3,593. The complete list of domain names and selling prices can be seen at whypark.com/auction.cfm.

I’m reporting this now because the bidder who had the highest single sale, $775 for EquityFirm.com, got to select the charity where the funds are to be donated and has selected the charity Make-A-Wish Foundation.

After reading WhyPark’s blog, it seems to me Craig Rowe has gone above and beyond. Not only did Craig donate the domain names which accounted for $2,441 in sales, but he also nearly matched the total raised in order to give the Make-A-Wish Foundation $7,200.

This directly from WhyPark’s blog:

“The average cost to make a child’s wish a reality is over $6,000. In order to be able to sponsor a full wish, we’ve doubled the $3,593 raised through the auction and are pleased to submit a total donation of $7,200″.

Thank you to Craig Rowe of WhyPark and everyone in the industry that pulled together to make a child’s wish come true.
