T.J. Demas is applying symmetry to a series of numerical domain purchases for a project he is not yet ready to fully reveal “.

From what I have read it is believed to be some type of a game with the domain names leading to clues.

After sifting through all of the information I am left with one question. Why spend six figures plus on a domain name and not develop?

I would really like to hear what you guys think?

Domain News #1

Posted on 14 February 2009

I am not a news reporter and really do not enjoy writing articles about domaining news on a daily basis. What I have decided to do is record a video every Saturday of the week’s headlines.

One thing I did forget to talk about was the return of Bido.com. Bido has been down for almost six months while making some upgrades and changes to their previous system. The concept behind Bido is simple, one premium domain name with no reserve auctioned daily between 1pm and 2pm est. First auction back will be Thursday February 19th. I believe on Monday the 16th they will be announcing the upcoming domain names for auction.

On the video I mentioned a few websites I like to visit for domain news. Here is that list again just in case you didn’t write them down.

Have a great weekend and make sure to come back tomorrow for a new comic strip.

Bob Parsons And Big Boobs

Posted on 14 January 2009

This is directly from Bob Parsons himself…

“I want a really well-endowed, good-looking gal in a tight T-shirt, with our name right across her breasts.”

Back in 2005 GoDaddy market shares began to sky rocket all because of a controversial Super Bowl ad, a parody of Janet Jackson’s boob popping out. What does this say, SEX SELLS!!! Is it that simple, kind of.  It certainly got the word out about GoDaddy and registering domain names. Once customers have landed on GoDaddy.com they continue to come back because of the great pricing, excellent customer service and easy to use domain management system. At least that is why I am a loyal customer.

Since that controversial Super Bowl ad Bob has not let us down with new sexy ads every year. Get a sneak peak at the two ads and vote here for your favorite.

If you’re curious to know where the “well-endowed” line came from, visit his recent article in Inc. Magazine.

And here is undisputed proof that sex and low pricing sells, check out the January 13th registrar market shares below.

The Revolution Is Over

Posted on 05 January 2009

It seems that the Domaining Revolution has ended. For those of you not familiar with the MysteryDomainAuction.com story please read here.

This is directly from John Motson…

“Following legal advice obtained as a result of concerns raised by fellow domaining bloggers and some NamePros members about the legality of an all-pay auction in the US where this site is hosted in addition to consideration of the problems I may face at the end of the auction in case more than one person bids with the same amount which is very likely I have decided that the best option is to cancel this auction effective immediately.

All bids have been refunded.

All affiliates that made commissions have now been paid out of my own pocket.”

I am glad this is over already, honestly I did not want to sit here until April and watch. I just have three questions for John.

  1. Are you still going to TRAFFIC in April?
  2. Will the domain name valued at $10,000 be awarded to the final bidder?
  3. What was the domain name?

I do hope that John can rebuild his reputation from this. DNXpert.com is a good blog and so is the Domaining Manifesto ebook which I am assuming is now free. It would be a little difficult to go from free to charging $27 again. A positive spin for John is using the ebook to build his email list.

***Updated***

I emailed John and he said he does not intend on answering any further questions.

Before that he did say that there will be no prize because the auction did not last the 100 days or 2 weeks without a bid. He also said that he has spoken with the last bidder and they are fine with not getting anything.
