Posted on 02 March 2010

The highly anticipated second DOMAINfest show has been announced. Actually I have not received any official word on this, I’m going off their DOMAINfest.com website. The event will be held at the Inter-Continental Hotel in Prague, Czech Republic. It begins October 6th, 2010 and end October 7th.

Preliminary Agenda

Thursday October 7, 2010

* Breakfast and morning time is for your personal meetings
* Starting at 11:00am, the rest of the day will involve relationship-building activities and excursions in and around Prague
*  8:00 – 11:00pm Farewell Dinner and Networking Party hosted by DomainSponsor

Conference details, including the full agenda and speakers, will be released in June, 2010.

Registration is not open yet, but as usual they will have an Early Bird registration offering a good discount if you book early. Here’s the pricing as shown on their site:

Early Bird Registration Rate will be $395 through July 1, 2010
Discounted Registration Rate will be $495 from July 1 to September 1, 2010
Standard Registration Rate will be $595 starting September 1, 2010

Unfortunately I won’t be able to attend this particular conference. Round trip from Florida with two connecting flights is a $1700-$2800 flight. I personally can’t see spending that kind of money for a two day networking event. In addition there are already two other shows scheduled for October of this year, my own conference which I have not publicly announced yet, DNCruise.com October 11-15 and T.R.A.F.F.I.C. Miami which is October 17-20.

*As I was creating this post an official press release went out.

GeoDomain Expo 2010 – Event Information

Posted on 23 February 2010

The following is a combination of two press releases published today for the upcoming GeoDomain Expo. The GeoDomain Expo will be held at The Roosevelt Hotel in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 28 through April 30.

St. Louis, MO, February 23, 2009.  Staying true to the spirit of holding the annual Geodomain Expo® at a hotel representative of the host city, Associated Cities has selected The Roosevelt New Orleans, a Waldorf Astoria Hotel, as the site of the 2010 Geodomain Expo. The industry conference and trade event will take place from Wednesday, April 28 through Friday, April 30, 2010, coinciding with the 40th anniversary New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival.

Recently reopened in July, 2009 after having been closed for nearly 4 years following Hurricane Katrina, a $145 million restoration has returned The Roosevelt to its place as the premier luxury hotel in New Orleans.

Speaking to the hotels phenomenal history, legend has it that Governor Huey P. Long built a 90 mile long highway in the 1930’s and 40’s directly from the state capital in Baton Rouge to front door of the Roosevelt.  The hotels’ world-famous Blue Room hosted the times greatest musicians including Louis Armstrong, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Ray Charles, Jack Benny, Bob Hope, Ella Fitzgerald, Cab Calloway, Marlene Dietrich, and Sonny and Cher.  The Sazerac cocktail made with absinth, known as the first cocktail invented in America and now the official drink of New Orleans, was popularized at the Hotels’ Sazerac Bar.

In parallel to the reopening of the Roosevelt and its historic Blue Room and Sazerac Bar, modern amenities abound including a 12,000 square foot world-class spa and fitness facility and the opening of Domenica, internationally acclaimed chef John Besh’s newest restaurant bringing his elegant take on the unique cuisine of rural Italy.

Hotel rooms for the 2010 GeoDomain Expo may be reserved at our negotiated guaranteed lowest rate of $229/night by visiting the online booking engine or by calling 504-648 1200 and referencing the GeoDomain Expo group rate.

The Geodomain Expo offers opportunities for operators of local- and destination-focused geo websites to share information, exchange best practices, learn about industry trends, meet vendors and form friendships with other operators. The program will include speakers and panels related to the evolving business of operating geodomains, as well as social and networking events, a trade show and opportunities to purchase and invest in geodomain properties.

Conference producer Associated Cities also announced today that Hotels.com co-founder David Litman will deliver a keynote address at the Geodomain Expo®, to be held this April 28-30 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

David Litman is a serial entrepreneur.  He has spent the last 25 years founding, building and growing 5 successful companies with his partner, Bob Diener.  Together they grew their best-known venture, HRN (later Hotels.com), from scratch to become the world’s largest hotel website.  From a $1200 investment they guided the company to be one of the Internet’s primary sources of discount accommodations and an industry innovator and leader.  They sold the company in 2003 at a business valuation of more than $5.5 billion. They have recently launched Getaroom.com, an innovative hotel booking site focused on handpicked hotel values in major cities.

Just a final note from me, book now! The current rate is $795 but will go up on March 1st to $995. As I say every event, book early for your best rates.

Domainer Mardi Gras 2010 Auction Results

Posted on 16 February 2010

This year Domainer Mardi Gras went with an online only auction which was hosted by SnapNames.com. I applaud DMG for not having a live auction. Coming off of two shows (T.RA.F.F.I.C. and DOMAINfest) there was just no room to hold a third live auction in less than 30 days.

Their online only auction closed today with a total of 35 domain names selling for $41,622.

Sales above $1,000:
artdealer.com $14,030.00
softmusic.com $3,530.00
yogurtmaker.com $2,300.00
ilovenyc.com $2,200.00
ticketplus.com $2,155.00
3x.org $2,000.00
myreversemortgage.com $1,950.00
redlips.com $1,716.00
exerciseplans.com $1,606.00
t4.org $1,000.00

To see a list of sales under $1,000 visit SnapNames.com.

My favorite three and what I believe to be great deals…ArtDealer.com, YogurtMaker.com and ILoveNYC.com. Instead of siding with the negatives, I think the auction did good with very little promotion.

Arriving At Domainer Mardi Gras – 2 Days Late

Posted on 13 February 2010

It is now about 9:30am and I have been driving through the night for a little over 10 hours.

Let me rewind a little, I really should have arrived here 3 days ago on Wednesday the 10th. So why so late? No, not the snow. It was because my little girl, Aryanna, had her very first daddy-daughter dance last night. The school didn’t inform my wife and I about this until I was away during DOMAINfest.

Although I feel terrible for missing the first two days of Domainer Mardi Gras and more importantly my chance to speak on the shows first panel with Bruce Marler and Sean Stafford, my family come first. One of the main reasons most people become self-employed is this reason right here, freedom.

My little girl is the one wearing the beautiful purple dress. :)

As you can see from the pictures, it was worth it!

Long story short, after canceling my trip completely and losing $200 in flight reservations I decided Thursday I had to be here and support my friends at Parked.com. Especially Michael Ward, I know he’s been working very hard for months to bring this all together. I tried booking a new flight, but found the cheapest fares were $480. Instead I took a 10 hour road trip with my good friend of 13 years which is only costing us about $200 in gas.

I am sooo tired right now. Oh well, I’ll have to wait another 18 hours or so before I can sleep because I’m not missing anything on today’s agenda, especially the party. With the recent Super Bowl victory of the New Orleans Saints and the clear skies tonight, Bourbon St is going to be CRAZY. :)
