SnapNames Auction Fraud and Cleanup

Posted on 04 November 2009

I received this email earlier today from SnapNames explaining that one of their employees setup an account on their system under a false name and, under this name, bid in SnapNames auctions.

DomainNameNews.com dug a little deeper and found the username created was “Halverez” which belonged to Nelson Brady, VP of Engineering Bidding on Domain Names. This username was also in question as early as December 2006 which you can view the discussions on DNForum.com.

UPDATE – Ron Jackson has just posted pictures of Nelson Brady a.k.a. Halverez, visit DNJournal.com.

I personally applaud Oversee.net for uncovering this issue and not only making it public but providing a solution.

Below is the email in it’s entirety, full details of misconduct and their solution.

Submit Your Domain Names For LDA Auction

Posted on 02 October 2009

LiveDomainAuctioneers.com (LDA) is now accepting domain name submissions for their October 25th auction. Any domain submissions must be in by October 9th. Domain owners will pay 10% commission on any sales. If your domain name is selected you will be notified via email with a sales agreement by October 13th.

At this time LDA is considering .com, .net and .org domain names ONLY. If your domain has any revenue or traffic stats please provide the appropriate documentation at the time of submission.

All domain names are auctioned of with NO RESERVE. This means the highest bidder will win the domain name. And yes, even if it is $1. I am a fan of no reserve auctions, because the market sets the sales price.

SUBMIT DOMAIN NAMES

Good luck on your submissions and sales.

My First Bido Auction Today

Posted on 24 September 2009

Actually I have my first two Bido auctions today.

I have used Bido service to purchase several domain names at a great value. Fact is, I visit Bido daily just to see if anything grabs my attention. So, I figure it’s time for me to give the service a chance to sell a couple domain names of my own.

CreditCounselingService.info 1:05pm est
With the popularity of these services and the high affiliate commissions this one should sell between $60-$300.

Miscarriages.info 1:30pm est
Not as popular as the first domain but should bring in between $28-$60.

We’ll see how it goes. If they do good, I’m happy. If they don’t then it would be my fault. I did zero marketing for the auctions. I will be sure to post the results and some thoughts after the auctions right here.

UPDATE:
Both domain names sold for the minimum Bido bid of $28. Am I happy with this, sure. Like I mentioned earlier I did zero promotion ahead of time except for this blog post and a Twitter message one hour before the auction.
