I never talk politics, personally I don’t believe this is the forum for me to discuss my political, religious or educational beliefs. I do feel that today is special and something I must write about.
Today we the United States have sworn in the first African American President, Barack Obama. Obama was sworn in using the same Bible that was used in President Abraham Lincoln’s inauguration. Extremely fitting for the event having known that President Lincoln ended slavery.
For the first time ever I am truly excited about our Presidential selection. Never before have we needed change as much as we do right now. I believe President Obama is the man to do it.

Lets just hope he can make some good changes for the good of us all.
You are correct, Patrick, this is an historic time: for the first time we have elected someone based not upon his capabilities to keep this country safe, his military prowess, hiw worldlwide relationships, his knowledge of how the government operates or his experience, but because of his skin color.
If he wants to introduce some change, maybe he could stop sending earmarks to his campaign donors, that would be a nice change for Barack to consider.
Your statement lump sums everyone that voted for Obama under one umbrella of just voting for the man because he is black. I personally know several black people that voted for him because he’s a Democrat and they are loyal to that party, and had it been Hilary Clinton that got nomitated they would have voted for her over McCain. I can’t say that race didn’t play a part in it for some, but not for all. There’s more to it than that.
I like the post Patrick. And even though I have extremely republican views, if any democratic candidate was chosen, I was extremely happy it was Barrack. He is a great man who will truly bring us change. He has done great things for us here in Illinois, and I can’t wait to see what he can do for our country. God bless America
Understand that I respect all of you, and have no wish to lump anyone into any particular category. Yet, could anyone name for me any other successful President who had -less- experience than Obama going in? We are at war, yet we elect someone wanting to weaken the armed services rather than a veteran war hero? We need to work together yet elect a man who has not once reached across the aisle to work with leaders of a different perspective?
By the way, can anyone here remember Carter’s slogan for his Presidential campaign? It was…..drum roll please….. “Time For A Change”.
You see, I just don’t buy into all this gobbledegook about what a great thing it is that the USA has it’s first African American President. I could not care less if he is black, green, pink, blue or white.
What I want is a President who works with both republicans and democrats to actually get things done. I want a President who stops spending money like it’s not his – because it isn’t. I want a President who doesn’t pay off his campaign donors with lucrative grants and contracts. I want a President who can balance a doggone checkbook. I want a President that other countries respect and are vaguely wary of, militarily. I want a President that will keep my family safe from terrorist activities. I want a President that will be able to say “No” to the liberals currently controlling congress.
And frankly, I’m pretty sure that Obama is not the answer.
I hope he is, though, I truly hope I am wrong, because we are stuck with him. The inaugural was a good day for the theory behind our country, for the peaceful passing of power that makes this nation great. I am not at all sure that it was a good day, however, for our economy and our security.
Now this is an opinion from you that I can respect and appreciate whether I agree with it or not…..not that you need my approval. For me, when people generalize things like I thought you were doing, it negates what they are saying to me. Everying is not just black and white (in the figurative sense, not race sense)..ther’s a lot of gray. I have a better understanding of where you’re coming from now. Thanks for clarifying and thanks for sharing!
I am really impressed by Obamas first few days in office! I think he has literally done more than Bush did in all 8 years.
Although history is made. I personally dont believe Obama will be able to change much because there is too much at stake for those who have power, he is more as a symbol telling the Americans that in the US everything is possible.
The real big changes will be difficult to implement but relations with other countries should improve while Obama is President.
Anyway time will show.
Obama is pushing forward quickly with the liberal adjenda. We are witnessing a political land grab the likes of which has never been seen before. The upcoming trillion dollar expense will be used to solidify and entrench far left policies into American politics.
This is a sad, sad day for capitalism and individual freedoms.
Nancy Pelosi’s theory: Don’t have kids and we don’t have to take money from the rich to help raise them. That’s the kind of backwards economic theory that is running congress right now. Doesn’t that scare any of you yet?
Change!
Well yeah, democracy to socialism is change, I guess.
And this is only JANUARY of the first year.
I never heard of Nancy Pelosi even suggesting that PC…Also, let’s not get to involved with politics and pull our strong political emotions into this. Trust me, being someone with very republican views, I understand where you are coming from, but I think this might be getting a little too involved at this point Mr. PC.
Not too involved, her comment was posted all over the news yesterday.
I am sure she will be back pedalling today.
All I know is, my bank gets ticked off with me when I am one penny overdrawn, I’d hate to see what the real bill is going to be for printing an extra trillion dollars worth of checks on money we don’t have.
What comes after a trillion, anyway?
Change!
