Posted on 16 March 2010

Press Release

Sedo, the leading online domain marketplace and monetization provider, today announced that it has teamed with VeriSign, the global registry operator for the .tv internet domain, to hold an exclusive auction for the entire available catalog of 115 premium .tv domain names at the standard registry renewal fee, which is a greatly reduced renewal price. Sedo has the exclusive right to offer this broad selection of highly valuable numeric, generic and geographic .tv online destinations, including Beauty.tv, Bloopers.tv, Business.tv, Cable.tv, Films.tv, Finance.tv, Home.tv, Jobs.tv, Lifestyle.tv, Real.tv, and Vacation.tv. This marks the first time that these .tv domain names have been offered in a public auction, free of high annual renewal fees. The auction begins on Sedo.com on April 1, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. EDT and ends on April 8, 2010 at 12:00 p.m. EDT.

The prevalence of television and video on the internet makes .tv a relevant and desirable extension for many companies and brands. Major broadcast networks, leading music publishers, and savvy businesses are all taking advantage of .tv domain names to create new revenue streams for their businesses. Organizations with engaging online video content are using .tv websites to engage their members in new and exciting ways. In fact, the extension has been successfully used by high profile brands such as MTV Networks and Major League Baseball to extend their reach to targeted audiences and visitors. Individuals are also creating .tv websites to get their creative voices heard.

“Descriptive and numeric domains are some of the most valuable and sought-after online destinations in the domain industry, and there are many excellent .tv choices in this auction,” said Jeremiah Johnston, chief operating officer at Sedo. “Sedo is honored to work with VeriSign to give the business community, content creators, portfolio managers, and online marketers the rare opportunity to register these .tv domain names at affordable price points.”

“VeriSign is pleased to offer these highly desired .tv domain names through auction. These web addresses have tremendous appeal, as they are industry neutral, with a great number of possible applications for each name,” said Tom Correia, VeriSign’s .tv Product Manager. “We selected Sedo, an industry leader with a large global reach, to be the auction platform for our first-ever .tv Registry auction.”

The complete list of .tv domain names available for auction at Sedo can be found at www.sedo.tv

So, what’s the deal with the renewal prices for these premium names? Surely the would all be premium renewals right? I’m still looking for a list with the annual renewal fees for these domains.

    • Chef Patrick says:

If I’m reading it correct I believe the renewal fees will be standard and not premium.

  2. Mike Law says:

Sweet! This should be interesting.. I can see .tv owners paying high renewal rates up in arms already :)

  3. Cate.TV says:

Was this the entire available catalog? – As in Enom doesn’t own, etc.? – Will be keeping an eye on this….

Would like clarification/verification from Sedo/Verisign posted here – they do check in:) “the renewal fees will be standard and not premium.”

    Thanks Patrick :)

  4. dcmike77 says:

    Me too. Love .tv

  5. I spoke to Ross Warren who told be their business development guy Mark Klein is still working out the specifics on the deal. He understands each name will have a reserve price. Obviously the reserve for Busines.tv will be higher than XO.tv. Looks like renewals will be some standard renewal like $50

    • Cate.TV says:

Thanks Ray – look forward to “the specifics” – do you know where/how this “the entire available catalog of 115 premium .tv domain names” was derived?
btw – we’re creating content for SpringTraining.TV – doing the “ground work” for launch next year :) of course no one says Spring Training better than the “Phillies Phanatic” :) – you still in Philly? http://bit.ly/cCcb3a

  6. Cool Cate I remember when I sold you the name. Still here. They just picked those 115. Details still be worked out. I see some quoting no reserve, Sedo told me definitely reserve prices.

    • Cate.TV says:

I remember wanting to buy SpringTraining.TV when it first was available and you “beat me to the punch – so to speak” – I remember….

You go to Phillies games? :)

  7. I bought the first ever domain with a dot
But someone beat me to mine, which I clearly forgot
I don’t know what to do from now on
It looks like all my domains will be sadly gone
The time was short I did have a blast
Not getting my name was my critical error, oh ghast.

  8. Mark Klein says:

Just to confirm these details for you. ALL .tv names in this Sedo auction will have reserves at less than $5000 and yes, ALL these domain names in this auction will be at your registrar’s standard annual renewal rate for .tv’s. We hope this wide selection of names with the lowered price point allows everyone to own a really good and memorable .tv domain name
