You Voted GoDaddy As The Worst Registrar

Posted on 28 October 2008

It was a close one between GoDaddy & 1and1 for worst registrar.  Personally I voted for 1and1 and am really surprised.  After reading your comments I can see your concerns with GoDaddy.

The numbers are in, we received 152 total votes and 34 comments.  GoDaddy received 46 votes, 1and1 received 42 votes and eNom came in a distant third with 16 votes.  To view the blog post and complete results click here.

Before the end of the week I will be sending a letter and email directly to Bob Parsons, owner of GoDaddy with our results.  I am sure everyone is curious to see what he has to say and what we can do to resolve some of the issues.  Once I get a response I will post what Bob had to say.

In the mean time I will look into replacing GoDaddy banners/coupons with Name and Moniker which had the least votes for worst registrar.  I briefly looked at their pricing for registering new domain names, Name is $8.99 and Moniker is $8.02.  I will look into discounts for my readers.

UPDATE: After viewing some of the comments and my personal feelings I am going to leave GoDaddy on the site.  To resolve the issue for people that do not like GoDaddy I will be adding either Name or Moniker. I hope this will provide a win-win situation for all my readers.

In addition to the GoDaddy letter I will also be sending a letter to 1and1, the voting was very close.  When you take into consideration market share that Ross pointed out in one of the comments it really brings the results into a better perspective.  GoDaddy has 27+ million registered domain names compared to only 4.5 million with 1and1.  View this link to show the Registrar Market Share chart which was updated yesterday.

The Ultimate Guide To Successful Domaining

Posted on 27 October 2008

For those of you that do not know me I became a full time domainer about four months ago.  At the age of only 31 I am retired from four years of running successful real estate investment companies.  Not today, but soon I will share more details about my previous business and how it compares to domaining.

For now, I want to discuss one of my first purchases helping to prepare me for what was to come with domaining.  I googled the term domain ebook and came across several options.  I reviewed the sales site for each and the cost, of course looking for the best deal.  After reviewing everything I decided to purchase the Domaining Manifesto by John Motson.  At the time I had no clue who John was nor his experience in the domaining industry.  The information provided on his sales site seemed to be a fit for what I was looking for.

Let me fast forward to last week. I was visiting the industry blogs to see what everyone else was putting out.  I visited DNXpert as I do periodically and read something that showed an ebook.  I read a little more and it showed the Domaining Manifesto by John Motson.  After seeing this I emailed the owner of DNXpert and found that he is John Motson.  Long story short we have emailed each other several times since.  He has even featured an article of mine on his blog.

For me, the most useful thing about the ebook was the many different explanations about everything domain related.  Trying to learn a new businesses jargon is a project on its own, like learning a new language.  It has given me the inside scoop on what goes on in the domain industry.  I learned a lot about expired domains, tasting, registering, values, short domains, trademarks and many of other things.  In fact if I remember correctly this is how I found a few of the domainer forums.  Yes it is, looking at the ebook now and it shows how to buy and sell domain names on the forums.  It also has tips about trader ratings and how to keep the transaction as safe as possible.

That brings me to today. I wanted to share with everyone what I first read when starting in this business.  There is just too much information for me to list about this 86 page ebook.  It really has everything from A to Z about domaining.  It includes dozens and dozens of links to useful tools.  I strongly suggest you click here to view more details.  For ONLY $27 and it has a money back guarantee I could not have asked for more.  My opinion, BUY IT.  Since purchasing this particular ebook I have not had to buy any others.

Worst Registrar Poll Is Getting Attention

Posted on 23 October 2008

They are reading what you have to say.  That is right, the registrars are reading what you the consumer have to say.  I just got an email from Chris, one of my readers.  Chris said that he posted a comment about eNom and has already been contacted by one of their top guys.

Here is what Chris said…

“Thought you might be interested to know that your “worst registrar” post is getting the right kind of attention. I just received an email from one of the top eNom guys saying he had seen my post on your site and offering to help.”

First let me say thumbs up to eNom for making the effort, a very classy move.  Secondly, don’t stop.  Let your voice be heard.  If you do not like a registrar then vote and leave a comment why on the blog post prior to this.  As stated in the previous post, I will be contacting the worst registrar and see what they have to say.

Please vote and add a comment to why you think your choice is the worst. These comments will be used in my email to the losing registrar.
