Domainer Mardi Gras 2010 Auction Results

Posted on 16 February 2010

This year Domainer Mardi Gras went with an online only auction which was hosted by SnapNames.com. I applaud DMG for not having a live auction. Coming off of two shows (T.RA.F.F.I.C. and DOMAINfest) there was just no room to hold a third live auction in less than 30 days.

Their online only auction closed today with a total of 35 domain names selling for $41,622.

Sales above $1,000:
artdealer.com $14,030.00
softmusic.com $3,530.00
yogurtmaker.com $2,300.00
ilovenyc.com $2,200.00
ticketplus.com $2,155.00
3x.org $2,000.00
myreversemortgage.com $1,950.00
redlips.com $1,716.00
exerciseplans.com $1,606.00
t4.org $1,000.00

To see a list of sales under $1,000 visit SnapNames.com.

My favorite three and what I believe to be great deals…ArtDealer.com, YogurtMaker.com and ILoveNYC.com. Instead of siding with the negatives, I think the auction did good with very little promotion.

Domains Guru, Inc. Launches Domain Name Consultation & Brokerage Services (Press Release)

Posted on 15 February 2010

New company to provide expert domain name consultation for businesses globally

Charlotte, NC (PRWEB) February 15, 2010 — Domains Guru, Inc. is embarking on an exciting new journey, with the recent launch of the domains consultation company. The company provides a variety of services that relate to the complex management issues of domain names in today’s marketplace.

DomainsGuru.com understands that in the competitive business world, having a strong and protected domain name is an integral part of a company’s success. As CEO Abdu Tarabichi explained, his team can walk you through the entire process of acquiring, managing and selling domains.

The company deals with the complex issues that people and businesses face every day when navigating the domain name industry, which has been called e-real estate in our changing world. As Mr. Tarabichi stated, “Just as a person would consult with an attorney when legal issues become complex, DomainsGuru.com can provide expert level consultation for this very specific industry. For example, we have consulted with companies who have had domains used or secured by their competitors. We assist our clients with weighing out their options, which can include alternative names that represent their brand, or explaining the actions that are within their rights if they feel someone has infringed on a company’s brand inappropriately.”

“We feel that the Domain industry is much like a new frontier for businesses to explore. Businesses need to look at domain names as online real estate, and ensure they make wise purchases that will put them in the right neighborhood and ahead of the competition online.” said Mr. Tarabichi.

The detailed services offered support clients from beginning to end. If you are planning your business, and want to secure the best domain name to drive potential customers to your site, or if you require monitoring of your existing domains to ensure no one infringes on your brand, DomainsGuru.com has the expertise. And, when it comes to managing your e-real estate, DomainsGuru.com understands the complexities of domain brokerage and recovery.

“To the inexperienced, buying, selling and recovering lost domain names can be confusing. Our team understands what fair market values are, and the processes of negotiation to ensure smooth transactions for our clients.” Abdu stated.

Abdu Tarabichi founded DomainsGuru.com in 2009, after seeing the challenges that businesses and individuals face when trying to navigate the more complex issues in the domain industry. Mr. Tarabichi has been working with domains since 2001, and has been an active participant in buying, selling and securing trademarked domains for companies worldwide. In addition to being the CEO for the Charlotte, NC based company Domains Guru, Inc., Mr. Tarabichi also manages the Domain Name Knowledge Base (www.dnkb.org), an educational site that provides valued information on domains.

Arriving At Domainer Mardi Gras – 2 Days Late

Posted on 13 February 2010

It is now about 9:30am and I have been driving through the night for a little over 10 hours.

Let me rewind a little, I really should have arrived here 3 days ago on Wednesday the 10th. So why so late? No, not the snow. It was because my little girl, Aryanna, had her very first daddy-daughter dance last night. The school didn’t inform my wife and I about this until I was away during DOMAINfest.

Although I feel terrible for missing the first two days of Domainer Mardi Gras and more importantly my chance to speak on the shows first panel with Bruce Marler and Sean Stafford, my family come first. One of the main reasons most people become self-employed is this reason right here, freedom.

My little girl is the one wearing the beautiful purple dress. :)

As you can see from the pictures, it was worth it!

Long story short, after canceling my trip completely and losing $200 in flight reservations I decided Thursday I had to be here and support my friends at Parked.com. Especially Michael Ward, I know he’s been working very hard for months to bring this all together. I tried booking a new flight, but found the cheapest fares were $480. Instead I took a 10 hour road trip with my good friend of 13 years which is only costing us about $200 in gas.

I am sooo tired right now. Oh well, I’ll have to wait another 18 hours or so before I can sleep because I’m not missing anything on today’s agenda, especially the party. With the recent Super Bowl victory of the New Orleans Saints and the clear skies tonight, Bourbon St is going to be CRAZY. :)

Project TampaBay.tv Has Been Terminated

Posted on 12 February 2010

Six months ago I announced plans of developing TampaBay.tv and Indianapolis.in into amazing community portals with an emphasis on Tampa Bay, because it is made up of 8 counties, a population of nearly 4 million residents, dozens of beautiful beaches, high tourism traffic, NFL, NHL and MLB teams. My plans were to develop a main portal and eight sub sites for each of the counties. With this model I’d be able to basically run nine websites in one project which gave me the maximum revenue potentials.

On paper I was set to easily bring in six figures per year from the start and once traffic picked up I could bring in as much as seven figures.

So if this was such a great project then why terminate?

I became an online businessman because I did not want to be in the streets pushing my product. The beauty of an online business is that I can sit at home in my pajamas and earn a good living. Taking on this project means going into the streets, meeting the community and businesses pushing the website. In addition, the drive to Tampa Bay ranges from 45-120 minutes from current residence depending on the area. Not only do I have to sell them on my site but the extension. Yes, I said the extension because it’s not a dot com. From the word go I am at a disadvantage. I will get nearly zero type in traffic, spend at least three times the amount of time and money on marketing the site and have to educate everyone on the use of dot TV or dot IN.

Am I against alternate extensions? Not at all and please don’t take this that way. Because I’m building a community site instead of a tourism site, my audience is in the streets. I don’t want to be in the streets. Being out there pushing the sites will take an enormous amount of time – time that will take away from my other projects that need just as much attention.

Although I’m extremely embarrassed about dropping these projects, I am also very relieved. I felt too much pressure to make something work that had too many up hill battles. It’s not the amount of work that worried me, it was the type of work I would have to endure. After a lot of contemplation and many many talks with my wife, I came to the realization that my business lies with domain names and our industry – that is where I want to make my money. Being an entrepreneur means you have to make hard decisions like that sometimes.
