LiveDomainAuctioneers.com First Auction 8/16

Posted on 30 July 2009

auction-bid-2-lg-gt_full_width_landscapeLDA, also known as Live Domain Auctioneers, is a new auction site selling domain names via live online auctions.  Even though they are new to auctioning in the domain industry, they are far from new to the auction business.  The founding partners, Troy Hill and Tory Miran, have over 20 years of experience and education between them as auctioneers.

As mentioned, they sell their names during live online auctions.  If you’re interested in a name, but won’t be available for the auction at its scheduled time, then you can submit a proxy bid.  With the proxy bid you are just giving what the highest price you’re willing to pay is and the system will automatically bid for you up to the maximum you indicated.

They use a “no reserve” strategy in their auctions so there are no reserve prices to contend with.  They believe that letting the name sell to the highest bidder, no matter what the price and without a reserve, is using the auctioneering process in its purest and truest form, which is simply people out bidding each other.

Their upcoming auction is their first domain auction ever and is scheduled for 8/16/09 at 3:00pm Pacific standard time.  The names will be sold by a professional auctioneer whom you’ll be able to listen to as the selling unfolds through their streaming live audio.  Those auctioneers talk super fast, but are pretty cool to listen to.  I’ve seen a few auctions myself and they are always amazing to watch and hear.

On their homepage you’ll find a list of “Highlighted Domains” for this particular auction.  Some of the names listed are ContractNurses.com, TextSpy.com, Jerud.com, AntiScams.com, MarketHomes.com and many more.  You can also see a complete catalog of all the domains that will be for sale in that auction and for the following auction after that.  They’ll be holding auctions roughly twice a month and there will be 75 to 125 domains for sale per auction.  Their site is completely user friendly, so head over to LiveDomainAuctioneers.com and can check out the domains they have for sale for yourself and see what peaks your interest.

Looking forward to seeing how this goes.

  2. Ricky says:

Went to their website but it did not have a place to list domains. Are they ONLY doing their own domains? If you spoke to them did they advise others can submit theirs at a later date?

Looked over the list and many of those names seem to be the same quality you see on ebay…..will love to see what prices they can get and how they are advertising.

    • Chef Patrick says:

At this time they are only offering the sales of their own domain names.

As for the quality of domain names. Well, I can only speculate because I have not asked them this. I would assume they have to build traffic before unleashing their top quality domain names. My analogy would be launching a new website. No way would I run a $10,000 contest when I don’t have traffic.

Glad to see more online auction houses surface. It will be interesting to see if it will benefit the domainer and will the online auctions attract the end user.

    Yikes!

That list of names is dreadful. First time out of the gate you want some decent names to keep it interesting, but I don’t see any in the lot. I expect massive failure with this auction – not quite as bad as the guy who tried to sell his portfolio of XXXrealestatelistings.com, but along the same lines…
