OLD FASHIONED BREAD PUDDING
My Grandmother used to make this recipe. I still love it!
| French Bread, cubed and dried |
10 cups |
| Eggs |
3 each |
| Raisins |
1/2 cup |
| Sugar |
1 cup |
| Vanilla |
1 teaspoon |
| Orange Peel, dried or fresh |
1/2 teaspoon |
| Orange Extract |
1 teaspoon |
| Fresh Nutmeg |
1/2 teaspoon grated |
| Sweetened Condensed Milk |
1 can |
| Evaporated Milk |
2 cans |
Cube French Bread and dry in oven until crisp.
Combine dried bread cubes with raisins in a large mixing bowl.
In a separate mixing bowl combine sugar, eggs, vanilla, orange peel, orange extract, nutmeg, condensed and evaporated milk. Stir, disolving the sugar.
Add all at once to the bread cubes and raisins. Toss well with your hands and put mixture into a 2 quart glass baking dish. Cover with foil and bake at 350 degrees for 30 minutes (on top shelf of oven), remove foil and bake another 10 to 15 minutes until golden. Do not overbake and dry out the pudding.
Serve warm with Whiskey Sauce.
