You didn’t know you could find love with a domain name? I watched this video and thought it was hilarious.
Thank you to Name.com for providing the above video.
I’ll be honest, I really didn’t get the idea behind .tel domain extension until watching this. Being a guy I needed it to be put in real world terms like the video
Here is a link to YouTube for another video explaining the use of .tel.
Seriously though I can definitely see the potential with .tel. Did I go out and register a ton of domain names, NO. I registered my full name and that’s it. I may go in later today and register my kids name, never know if this takes off. I wouldn’t want them to look back at me 20 years from now saying dad, why didn’t you get our .tel names. Visit Name.com to get your .tel domain for only $8.95 – currently the lowest price I’ve been able to find.
Why didn’t I go crazy and register a ton of the .tel extensions? I’d say I’m a little apprehensive at this point when it comes to new extensions. I also liked the .mobi extension and lost a few hundred dollars.
Random thoughts…
I see the use for it with personal names, businesses and geographic locations. To what extent will it be used, I don’t know. The future of this extension depends on the cell phone applications and the adaption of major corporations across the world. MySpace and BT have already taken a step in this direction by offering the extension to their users. Read more about this here. I believe there is also an iPhone application in the works as well.
I understand the inability to develop or forward like a standard domain name.
I realize the search engine possibilities, simple use of keyword integration.
Picture owning Chairs.tel, although you’re not able to develop a site or sell a chair through the domain you can provide a site address redirecting them to a site that does.
Check out the videos and Name.com for more information.
***UPDATE***
I just read on DomainNameWire.com that there have now been over 100,000 registrations of .tel.

That is one great video, made me laugh
It is going to be really interesting to see if the .tel catches on because it is unlike any other extension out today. I think it is a great idea they just might need a huge ad budget to get it off the ground. I also like their idea with their iphone and BB apps.
I registered a couple of .tel’s because this is what I do.
I have sorta setup one so far, and it is a domain name that has a content management system behind it to configure a template of information. It’s nothing you couldn’t do with any other domain with some tech work.
I have no idea if they will catch on or not. The video is clever, but I doubt any of the short .tel’s are available – my last name as a .tel is kinda long!

.tel is definitely an example of thinking “outside of the box” when it comes to TLDs.
I believe there is potential for type-in traffic to develop on premium terms (albeit not at the levels of .com), as individual users spread the word about their personal .tel domains. For instance, take JohnnySmith.tel (random example — it might be unregistered). If Johhny Smith begins to tell his friends about his .tel, his friends (even a small portion of them) are bound to wonder what’s on Cars.tel, for example, next time they’re looking to buy/rent a car. The same could be said for other TLDs; however, the difference is that .tel provides a really easy process by which one can input their contact info. Sure, one could buy the same term/name (JohnnySmith) in a different TLD and put up a site, but most people don’t know how to do that and the “figuring-it-out” prohibits them from ever attempting. .tel gets around this by making it simple to use your “page.” Because of this, of the .tel domains that are registered, I think we’ll see a much larger proportion of them are actually used (contact info entered) than registered .mobi and .me domains, which require pages to be set-up. I don’t think this should be overlooked. With more of them being used and marketed people-to-people (Johnny Smith’s friends using JohnnySmith.tel to get in contact with him), I think we’ll see some type-in traffic develop on premium terms.
yadda, yadda, yadda
I think this extension will bomb, just like the hyped excitement Mobi created
It’s going to be real hard to monetize I believe and only the best premiums will have a chance at it. The utter scarcity of name.tel will mean it’s a huge fail as a substitution for the white pages. There can be multiple chris robbins listed in the white pages for any given area. There can only be one chrisrobbins.tel for the whole world. Doesn’t exactly lend itself to mass appeal except as a novelty.
I understand the selling of subdomains but let’s say you are a hotel in california do you list with californiahotels.tel, cheaphotels.tel, hotels.tel or all three and that’s while already listing on cheaphotels.com and hotels.com and your local yellow pages and wherever alse you advertise. Not very feasible.
Nice video but the same thing could have been done with a .com, .net, .us and so on. Just build a webpage or mobile site with all your contact info.
The only difference might be you still have a chance to get a good name in .tel, something short that looks good. I’d only get a .tel if it was something short or had meaning to me, no use in regging a ton of useless, long names.
I totally agree with you, Patrick. I registered yesterday my son, my wife and my name domains. For the same reasons.
The commercial of Telnic is great. Isn’t it?
This is the funniest .tel yet
drugcar.tel

I´m definitely gonna get my name. One never know.I´t could be
