Favorite 5 Domaining Blogs

Posted on 25 April 2009

Here are my favorite 5 blogs in the domain industry.

Listed in alphabetical order:

ChefPatrick.com
Of course I’m going to list my own blog, I love it. I personally believe it is the most well rounded blog in the domain industry. I do not report news on a daily basis but do provide a recap of the news every week. The blog has the standard text articles but also offers a weekly comic strip, video and now podcast.

DNJournal.com
The godfather of domain blogging, Ron Jackson is an amazing journalist. If a news story breaks you better believe Ron is one of the first to know about it. Ron has been quoted and featured in many major publications. DNJournal is widely known for weekly updated sales reporting. Ron Jackson attends every event in the domaining industry and reports on all of them. I personally had the chance to meet Ron and his wife Diana last week and it was a pleasure. Ron is the one person I look up to when it comes to our industry’s journalism.

DNN.com – Domain Name News
The team at DNN are putting out great stories day in and day out. I put them in a category with DNW.com, consistently putting out great articles and breaking news. I definitely enjoyed their April Fools Day articles, very creative.

DNW.com – Domain Name Wire
Andrew Allemann has done a great job over the last four years with breaking stories and investigation work. Andrew is consistent and accurate with all of his information. If something doesn’t look right Andrew is in the trenches researching the facts and gathering information to provide an accurate report. Andrew has no fears. He called out Bob Parsons of GoDaddy resulting in an invitation on Bob’s radio show.

ElliotsBlog.com
Elliot Silver is a highly respected individual in the domain industry. Elliot’s blog is well rounded when it comes to articles. Elliot shares some of his own experiences with development and domain sales. He is also one of the friendliest and most helpful people I’ve met. I have emailed Elliot on a few occasions and he has been quick to respond with great information.

Sixth man award goes to…
All Bloggers!!! If your blog is not on the list I am sorry. There are a lot of amazing blogs and there is just no way I could squeeze them all in my favorite five. Does this mean I only read the blogs listed above, no way. I read dozens of blogs every day.

Who is in your favorite five?

Years ago I made that mistake to name names of favorites. By doing that I let the rest know they weren’t as important. Was DEFINITELY not my intention and I’m sure it isn’t yours either but it is how those who aren’t included perceived it to be.

Now you made yourself four friends/sites who like your post, and many who will never forget.

Cheers

As you said that is certainly not my intentions. I talk with and interact with the bulk of the other bloggers. They know I enjoy their blogs and respect them greatly, yourself included.

It is all AT&T’s fault with there Fav 5 slogans, lol :)

I am finding it harder and harder to have an opinion with blogging. No matter what I say someone will always disagree or be offended, unfortunately I cannot please everyone.

I also did that mistake in the past revealing the bloggers having a higher headline CTR in domaining.com (supposed to be the ones making the most attractive posts).
The ranking was not very appreciated by all, and this is why I will not do it again… I don’t earn anything pointing that.

Everyone bring is little brick in our community. If you want to share, if you do it with your heart, with enthoussiasm then people should perceive it and like what you offer them.

You have done a great/generous job with your comics and lately with your video journal, simply continue: Thanks!

The only that worry me is the lack or low ad revenue spend on domaining information sites like your. If the blogger depends of this to survive, it can quickly lead to the end of blog.
In fact what happen with mst blogs this past year.

I can not believe I am going to agree with Sahar.

I appreciate domain news in general.

Anyone can create/make a blog and regurgitate what others have or are saying.

What about those that go well beyond this and make the news? In other words, those bloggers who take domaining and how it applies to other industries, consumers, and business sectors.

If I create a blog just about domaining and domain names and domainers, I have a very small reach and audience.

There are several bloggers that I read regularly because they have that ability to reach and react and interact with those outside of domaining.

Even though I may not agree with them (the person, the subject, the content, the responses) that does not mean I do not like the effort to intertwine domaining outside of domaindom.

Bravo for your effort and stance.

I am open to reading any bloggers who have the creativity.

Most blogs are cut and paste-recycled words.

I want to see creativity, originality and someone who thinks far ahead.

Hey Chef,
Love your blog I sometimes don’t agree with what you say/type but at least your open and honest about it.

Two things you need is Red head model and podcast listed in ITUNES ;)

My favourite Domain News site is
namebee.com

(That’s where I found you Chef!)

I gave up on on the others..

And that’s good, I don’t want visitors to agree with everything I say. Everyone has their own stances on certain topics.

I am sure we can work something out with a redhead, lol.

I am going to start uploading podcasts into iTunes within the next couple of weeks.

NameBee.com is a good rss aggregator, who owns it?

Ron even managed to beat the buyer of ad.com for $1.4M, Divyank Turakhia, with a post on FB.

I enjoy your top 5, along with a few others, and find that while not all are “subjective”, they do at times provoke thought….

What I do find annoying, within the blogoshphere though, is how many feel the need justify to others what they’re saying, so that they don’t put someone off. It’s your/their blog, if people don’t agree? fine, let them not agree, if anything it’s going to promote thought and/or dialogue correct?

This is especially true when using the “all comments are held for approval before being posted” tag.

If someone has an “alternative” thought process going into whatever the post is about, it’s usually never posted…which I’ve run into a few times, …why allow comments if you’re not going to post the good “and” the bad…sure edit if for disparaging comments and the like, but keep the general gist of it.

Promote dialogue, maybe in the end it will or could direct some interesting solutions to an otherwise stale area….after all, how many times can we hear, “the end user doesn’t get it”
so promote ideas on how to get them to “get it” instead of the same people regurgitating what’s been said for years.

The only reason why some comments are held here is for spam and language. Not all spam is picked up by the filters and foul language is not either. If something comes across with foul language I’ll just bleep out those words.

Besides that all comments get approved.

I agree about regurgitating content but sometimes there is a need for it. Not every visitor reads all of the same sites.
