This week’s video is being showcased at Domaining.com. In fact, if your not already aware of it Domaining.com is my newest video sponsor. They will be running the video on their site Friday, Saturday and Sunday every week. On Monday I will then replace this post with the video in order to archive it for future viewing.

Thank you to my readers and advertisers for your support.

Geesh.

Can you at least try and look a little more professional for your videos?

Advice from an over-weight guy in a dirty t-shirt, who looks like he lives in his Mom’s basement is NOT aspirational nor does it make you look like you have any credibility.

“Act as if” as the saying goes.

I applaud the effort Patrick, but look at least a little professional will you. I’m sure you have intelligent things to say, but I (along with many others I’m sure), get one glimpse and of your vid and turn it off.

Just trying to give you some constructive feedback.

-Mike

I’m going to cry, overweight and dirty shirt.
Come on, I am one sexy guy and that is a freshly cleaned shirt.

I let your comment stand, my readers comments speak for themselves.

For the record, I’m just an average guy. If your looking to idolize someone then look to guys like Rick Schwartz, Rick Latona and Frank Schilling who have bought and sold million dollar domain names.

Come to think about it Rick wears nothing but tropical shirts :)

Well I for one think he does not need to change….His actions and help speaks for itself…..Just because he has on a suit or dressed better if he still talks shit (which he does not) then its still shit…..Clothes dont make the man…Character does!

Great job Patrick. Very informative. Now I don’t have to wade through the RSS spam on domaining.com. Congrats on the $ponsorship!

@DCMike77 – Loosen up… I don’t know too many domainers out there shackled in a suit. Anyway, “professionalism” is dead.

Vid not working for me at the moment, Patrick. Will stop by later and see if it’s back up.

Don’t know why that would be, I’m sorry Mike. It seems to be working fine for me. The only thing I can think of is the amount of views it is getting, Vimeo.com can’t hand it, lol.

Was listening to the news of the week while cleaning up my room. Had the laptop chilling there and was listening. IT WAS GREAT!

Awesome job!

All jokes aside, Patrick, if you keep saying you’re an average guy, you’ll always be average. You shouldn’t dress for the position you’re in, you dress for the position you want to become.

Take my advice Patrick, PLEASE. It takes very little effort to have a better background and dress a little more professional. Right now you’re giving people a reason to turn away. Don’t give them that reason.

I hope to see a change for next week. Just give it a try. If not, go back to your usual, what do you have to lose?

Rest assured Mike, I am anything but average. I will not go over my resume but believe me, I have done very well for myself.

The one thing I will agree with is a background.

If you feel strong about this and would like to continue our conversation please send me an email. I’ll be more than happy to talk with you over the phone as well.

lol – Clothes don’t make the man; the man makes the man.

But clothes can help though in perceived perception.

You just have to be who you are, if you’re not – people can read right through you.

and you don’t have to be a million-dollar portfolio holder to gain respect. and vice versa

Yeah Patrick.. while you’re trying to squeeze into the Armani suit that DCMike77 is tailoring for you, why don’t you go ahead and hit the gym, drop by the tanning salon, and schedule an appointment to get that prison ink lasered out of your forearms. You’re simply BLEEPIN the whole domain industry up by being yourself.

Damn you…

I think Patrick looked professional enough. Looking at what’s been going on at Wall Street, Powersuits and ties don’t impress me much anymore..

Well, Patrick. Mike is saying, in other words, you have the perfect face for radio!

Just kidding. Actually, bloggers are supposed to wear pajamas. It’s in the dress code.

Now my suggestion will make many people happy. It’s this:

Record an audio version along with the video.

Why? Because I have little time to watch videos, and I get especially irritated when the video adds nothing to the audio. However, like lots of people, I have to drive places, so audio podcasts get my attention. Not everybody loves video, no matter what the recent marketing gurus say.

It would only take a few minutes to knock of an MP3 audio of these. And those who find your appearance objectionable would be assuaged.

Add an audio only version and you’ve got a fan.

Cheers.

Lol – Don’t take any notice of them Pat, they want to manipulate and mould you so they can invest in your talents when you finaly go public with the Chef Patrick News Channel.

Dude, it’s early days yet, your a down to earth guy and you wear casual – there’s no need for it to look like a BBC or CNN broadcast, ahem.. you might want to sort the background out though I agree with that. Maybe get a blue screen and do some diggery pockery with a picture of Capital Hill behind you – hey what about a nice beach pic with a palm tree – that will give us an inkling of what we’re looking forward to when we retire.

But seriously, I think this is excellent and I’ve told Francois the same, keep it up man – great service – we’re proud of you!

Huw :)

The big boys in the domain business made thier millions working at home in their underwear. No joke.

Don’t get any ideas though Patrick.

I agree. Get a sexy model with big tits, some graphics, music, interviews with successful domainers and a professional set with furniture and a band–or don’t waste my time.

I think the idea of adding just an audio feed is good. I am not a fan of the video format, requires me to feel that I have to be watching as well as listening. Audion format would probably be a way to ensure that I listen to it.

Brave thing to try and do.

The problem is is that domaining isnt something visual; unless you’re interviewing someone. Just to sit at your desktop and talk about domaining I have no interest in viewing – even if it was one of the key domainers you mentioned earlier on. And even if they were dressed in an Hawaiian shirt, a sarrong or a star wars storm trooper outfit.

Actually, the last one I might.

I fail to see what you’re trying to achieve actually. Maybe just stick to a podcast and bring out the home video if or when you need to?

Just watched your video Patrick and again I have to say it was very informative! And you were right about signthis.org, it really is a great domain.

You seem be getting a bit of “advaice” about how you should present your videos from other domainers. Just to add I think we need to get used to the fact that in the internet world we earn money from home and that’s, home means just plain and simple. But to be honest I only watch your video for 30 sec and just let it run and listen to it while doing other things (as I do with TV).

Doing just an audio session could be an idea but I think the video puts a face behind the curtain which is good because I know a lot of domainers online but have never seen their faces.

I don’t really know why some people want to change the way domainers and online entrepreneurs function.

Thank you everyone for your support.

I like the idea about audio. I might give that a try next week.

I will also look into a background and shortening up the video some.

The one thing everyone needs to know, this was intended to be a video blog only. I never created this with the intentions of being showcased on domaining.com, that was just a great bonus.

I think it’s great what your doing and I’m sure there are plenty of people out there who agree and haven’t aired their opinions so readily because they are content and enjoy listening and watching you.

Whatever you do, don’t pack the video blog in m8, and don’t bow down to the minority of comments you’ve received here, although a bit of criticism makes for better direction. I’m sure it’s bought you a great deal of recognition from the inset, and it’s a fresh change from perusing text from Domaining.com and DNJournal.com – if you don’t continue with your vBlog someone else will step in your shoes very soon because it’s calling out for it.

Thanks Huw. No worries, I’m not going anywhere :)

The background is something I wanted to do anyway. I do like the idea of a podcast or mp3 of some sort. That would be another avenue for people to take my blog with them. I wouldn’t mind recording my articles to that format.

Who knows, maybe I’ll get a couple women with big ummm personalities and have them introduce me.

Patrick you are fine not sure who the bigger tool is Mike or Julia, at least she named her blog right and yes its YOU.

Why would a domainer be in attire that is meant for big business? No one will take you serious ? People take Hawaiian Rick serious, Schilling does not wear any ties in the Caymans. WOW.

Great Job
