I have now been in the domain industry just over a year and still find myself learning new and interesting things every day. Because it’s the weekend I wanted to try something new and share one thing I found interesting during the week.
Did you know that Ron Jackson of DNJournal.com was one of the four founding owners of Bido.com?
I came across an article on Conceptualist.com from December 21, 2007 where Ron Jackson originally announced the new business venture. Only four months after that article was released Ron decided to leave Bido.com, which you can read about on DNJournal.com.
This paragraph from Ron Jackson’s article sums it up the best.
“While Bido.com was an exciting joint venture for me, DNJournal.com remained my primary enterprise. I have been able to report on the industry in the way that I have for the past five years because I have taken time to build key relationships and trust with people and companies in every part of the domain business. As long as I call on them as an independent party, the door is always open. If I had to call on anyone as a potential competitor that would change the dynamic with those parties and make it more difficult for me to do my job at DN Journal.”
A few more fun facts about Ron Jackson:
- Owns over 6,000 domain names
- DNJournal.com online since January 1, 2003
- Owned a music business from 1988-2000
- Sports journalist for Fox TV after starting off as a weatherman for ABC in the 70’s and 80’s
- Drafted during the Vietnam War posted to the military newspaper and radio
Let me know what you think. Would you like to see more articles like this on Saturdays?

He is a mainstay of the industry. You should interview the guy that owns acorndomains.co.uk. That is an interesting story…
Yes, interesting to see (key) peoples’ backgrounds.
Owns over 6,000 domain names? Examples please?
Mr. Ron Jackson is almost as big as Walter Conkite!!!
Uncle Ron, my respect to you.
He calls it as the way he sees it.
I already knew all those things…
But still enjoyed reading it…
Never thought I would own MORE domains than Ron…
I better get to purging some…At a certain
level it becomes an annoyance to me… LOL…
I would very much like to see more of these on other folks…
Maybe you could put up a section where we could
submit suggestions of WHO to interview or research…
An ongoing list – that stays posted… (smile)
THe TOP 3 that come to mind that I’d like to
read about first – would be:
Francios Carrillo of Domaining.com +++
Michael mann of the WORLD
David Bleaman of DailyDomainDrop.com
Dan Rubin of JustDropped.com
Thanks for the fun reads…
~Patricia – DomainBELL
I like read DNJournal from time to time, and owner is real professional when is comes to writing.
I did not know that he owns 6000 domains, and this is very interesting fact. Domain business is not easy to learn, but if you start on right path, you can make some good investment, and turn into quick cash.
I like your article, please keep us up to date

I like your article It’s very short and to the interesting point. He is professional and I really enjoy reading his post, as well yours. Sometimes I wonder how many domains is owned by ordinary people, and they do not have idea what is value of domain names they are holding in the hand.
My focus for now to find market value of .IM domain names
Keep good work.
Ron has done a lot for the domain industry, I don’t know what we’d do without his coverage and sales reports. He is a great spokesperson for the domain industry. No one else really does what he does.
Very interesting picture of Ron Jackson …
he’s looking at millions of dollars worth of Geo Domains
… we all heard and stared at the weather reports during the
.com boom … how many of us really listened
I did actually know Mr. Jackson was one of the original founders of Bido, but not about his previous ventures, cool stuff! DNJournal is a phenomenal resource that I recommend all the time.
I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Jackson and his wife at DOMAINFest Hollywood, a true honor. I credit Mr. Jackson as my inspiration for founding DotSauce.com and for pursuing a career in the domain name industry.
Rons site is great…without having found it I’d prolly still be cleaning toilets:)
Wish he would allow comments at the lowdown…would be the busiest site in domaindom
I consider Ron Jackson the bona fide professional journalist of the domaining industry. After spending hours perusing some of the posts I see on domaining forums, reading Jackson’s work is an absolute breath of fresh air. I wish him all the best.
Articles like this are important for all of us to get acquainted with the key players in the domain industry. As for Bido.com, I didn’t know Ron was a player in the incipient stages of the company – so thanks for this info. It’s more to satiate an unrevealed curiosity; but thanks, nonetheless.
Ron is a great guy, always answering e-mails and giving credit to upcomers as well.
Ron Jackson is a rare breed these days.
A real gent and a total pro
andy
Ron is a credit to himself – a great professional and a really nice guy to boot.
