Blog To Sell Your Domain Names

Posted on 27 May 2009

Coming from a background in real estate and using the internet to showcase my properties, I knew that duplicating something similar to showcase my domain names was a must. Seriously, if I do not showcase my domain names how will buyers know they are there? Where do I direct my potential buyers and how do I keep their interest?

Creating only a domain portfolio site does not mean it will generate traffic or that people will buy from it. The whole “build it and they will come” does not apply for this. At first, I integrated a blog with my domain portfolio. This gave people a reason to visit my site on a regular basis to see what new adventures I was getting myself into. At the same time I created an identity for myself, while putting my domain names in front of customers and earning their trust. Speaking of trust, I hope you know by now that earning customer trust is very important when it comes to sales. Buyers are smart! I promise you they know when they are being taken advantage of. By integrating my portfolio with a blog I was able to mask the sole purpose of the site which was to sell domain names.

For those that have been with me since the beginning, you know I am talking about DomainSubway.com. I have since converted it to a domain portfolio only because my primary blog, this one, takes all of my time.

Here’s a tool I used to build my domain portfolio. It’s a  free script that you can download here. The owner has put a lot of hard work into the project, so of course feel free to leave a donation for them. If you are somewhat web savvy you can have a blog with an integrated domain portfolio up before the end of the day. If you are not, let me know and I can have someone on my team do the work for a fee.

Take the above information and apply it to any product. Blogs are a great resource to help build not only web traffic, but a brand and trust.

So what are you saying exactly? That you need a potfolio site and a blog to sell domains? I didn’t see any domains for sale on your blog. Why not combine the two?

No, you do not have to create a portfolio site and a blog. This is just one of many ways of selling domain names.

I have since converted DomainSubway.com into a domain portfolio only because my primary blog, this one, takes all of my time.

Why not connect the two? You should at the very least put an ad for your own portofolio site on the blog site. Better, create a new Domains for Sale page and link to your portfolio site. Can’t hurt.

I have thought about it but decided against it because of potential advertiser conflict. I have a new advertiser coming soon that is showcasing their portfolio site.

Plus it’s not my strategy. I am more of a buy and hold. On occasion I may stop by the forums and sell a domain or two but nothing serious.

That’s a great tip there Patrick :)

I actually discovered that completely be accident — figured why not post my domains for sale on my blog, seeing as it was free to do so.. Never thought I’d see the results I did. Some blog readers seem to be somewhere in the middle of the domainer and end user extremes, willing to pay more for domains than domainers on the forums will.

Thanks for the link….
Always on the lookout for something that can eliminate the numerous post it notes and pieces of paper and excel sheets to have a portfolio all in one place…

but that’s 10 minutes I’ll never get back….

While I don’t have any problem whatsoever “donating” to the cause for a product that serves a purpose….Taking it for a test drive first is key….

So in order to download this product to test drive it, one has to register,….no problem…yet another in a long line of places that require some sort of verification,….

THEN…thinking that my test drive is just around the corner, yet another form of verification or another “hoop” to jump through…by stating:
Sorry, but before you can download Domain Name Portfolio – you must have at least one GOOD post. Do not try to spam, if you do, your post will be deleted and account banned.

Yahoo….just what I like to see, ….someone wanting to promote their product, but warning you beforehand…
Be careful or you won’t get to try this out

Great Tip Patrick!

Just having a site with your domains gets sales in sometimes. It’s starting to work for me.
